Test a payment app by lifecycle, not just by outcome.
Hire in-house when payments is your core product and you can fund a permanent team for the long term
A gateway integration is more than calling an API. Scope it by the transaction lifecycle you must support, the environments and approvals you need, and the operations around the money:
Use native Android when your app runs on a dedicated payment terminal or depends on a vendor SDK. Consider Flutter or React Native for consumer checkout apps where the processor offers a supported SDK or plugin.
There is no honest single number. A custom payment app costs whatever its hardest dependency costs: usually the device SDK, the processor integration, and certification, not the screens.
Worldpay. Certified faster. Same problem as always, different processor → get a payment application through Level 3 certification without it costing your team a year of engineering time.
Your developers know your application inside out. Payments shouldn't be the thing that slows them down.
