Agentic Payments for ISVs and ISOs

Turn payments into revenue, and be ready for what AI agents buy next.

Many software platforms and ISOs know payments could be a revenue line and do not know where to start. We help you launch it, put AI to work inside your payments operation, and make your platform ready to accept agent-initiated checkout as it arrives.

01 · Two opportunities

Two opportunities, one build.

"Agentic payments" means two different things, and an ISV or ISO can benefit from both. We build for each, and we are clear about which is which.

Track 1: Revenue now
Track 2: Agent-ready next
The question
How do we earn from payments, and run them without a big team?
How do we accept a purchase that an AI agent makes for a customer?
What changes
Embedded payments, onboarding, support and reconciliation, with AI doing the repetitive work.
Checkout, credentials, authorization and disputes that work when the buyer is an agent.
Timing
Available today.
Early and moving fast. We help you prepare without overbuilding.
Who benefits
ISVs adding payments, ISOs scaling a book, platforms improving margin.
Platforms and merchants whose customers will shop through AI assistants.

Track 2 volume is still small. We say so. The point is to be ready, with a platform that can add agent checkout when your merchants ask for it, not after.

02 · Where are you starting?

Most teams start in one of four places.

Tell us which one and we scope from there.

We are an ISV with no payments yet

You have a product people use and no payments revenue. We map the fastest compliant path to embedded payments and what AI can automate from day one.

We have payments, and our team is stretched

Onboarding, support and reconciliation take more people every time you grow. We add AI where it removes work, without losing control of risk.

We want to be agent-ready

Your merchants will ask about AI checkout. We prepare your APIs, credentials, tokenization and disputes so you can say yes.

We are not sure

Start with a scoping conversation. We look at your stack, your merchants and your processors, and tell you which track pays off first.

03 · Revenue paths

How a platform or ISO earns from payments.

How a software platform or ISO earns from payments depends on the model. Which one fits depends on your merchants, your risk appetite and your processors, and we confirm it during scoping.

Path
What it is
Where we help
Embedded payments
Payments inside your product, with your brand and your merchant relationship.
Integration with your processor or gateway, checkout, terminals and certification.
ISO residuals
Recurring revenue from merchants you place with a processor.
Technology that makes onboarding and servicing cheaper, and a partner program for referrals.
White label
Your brand on a payments product you do not have to build.
White-label options and payment requests with Ask.
Card-present and unattended
Revenue from terminals, kiosks and unattended devices.
Android payment apps, EMV Level 3 certification and PCI.

Revenue figures depend on your volume, pricing and agreements, so we do not quote them on this page.

04 · AI inside your payments operation

Fewer people, fewer delays, people in the loop.

Track 1 is about using AI agents to run payments with fewer people and fewer delays. These are the jobs we build for, with people kept in the loop wherever money or risk is involved.

Job
What an AI agent does
What stays with your team
Merchant onboarding
Collects and checks application data, flags gaps, prepares the file.
Approval and underwriting decisions.
Integration support
Answers developer questions from your real documentation, and helps with test setup.
Escalations and exceptions.
Support and disputes
Drafts replies, gathers transaction evidence, routes cases.
Final decisions on money movement.
Reconciliation
Matches transactions, settlements and fees, and surfaces breaks.
Resolving the breaks.
Tools other agents can call
MCP servers and APIs so an assistant can create a payment request or look up a transaction.
Access rules, limits and audit.

We already build MCP-native APIs and tools, and we know where payment data, PCI scope and permissions need hard limits. See the Developer Hub and MCP tools.

05 · Agent-ready acceptance

Several protocols at once. No single bet.

Track 2 is about accepting a purchase that an AI agent makes for a customer. Several protocols and network programs are emerging at once, and card networks, cloud providers and PSPs are joining more than one. We do not bet your roadmap on a single winner.

Standard or program
What it does
Relevance to an ISV or ISO
Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP)
Standard checkout between an AI surface and a merchant. Co-developed by OpenAI and Stripe, open-sourced in September 2025.
The merchant accepts a scoped credential from the agent and charges it through its existing payment provider.
Agent Payments Protocol (AP2)
A permission layer: signed mandates prove what the user authorized. Launched in September 2025 with more than 60 partners.
Platforms and networks need to hold and verify those mandates. It supports disputes and audits.
x402
Payment over HTTP using the 402 status code, mostly with stablecoins. Now under the x402 Foundation.
Mainly machine-to-machine uses such as API calls and data access.
Machine Payments Protocol (MPP)
Session-based payments with a spending limit. Co-authored by Stripe and Tempo, launched March 2026.
Streams small payments across a task. Visa extended it to cards.
Visa Intelligent Commerce Connect
Visa's on ramp for agent builders, merchants and enablers, announced April 8, 2026. It supports Trusted Agent Protocol, MPP, ACP and Universal Commerce Protocol.
One integration for tokenization, controls and authentication. In pilot with partners including Payabli, with a wider rollout planned.

What we do about it

  • Map which of these your processors and networks will support, and when
  • Make your APIs and checkout ready to accept agent credentials, tokens and signed authorizations
  • Design spending limits, audit trails and dispute evidence from the start, because the protocols leave those controls to the wallet and policy layer
  • Keep EMV, PCI and processor certification in scope, since agent checkout still ends at a processor

07 · From idea to first processed dollar

Five steps.

01

Scope

A conversation about your product, merchants, processors, risk and goals. We tell you which track pays off first.

02

Plan

A recommended revenue path, the certifications and compliance involved, and a milestone plan.

03

Build

Payments integration and any AI agents or MCP tools, tested against your processor.

04

Certify and launch

EMV Level 3 and PCI work where it applies, then a controlled rollout.

05

Extend

Add agent-ready acceptance as your processors and networks support it.

Timelines depend on your processor, scope and approvals, so we give them after scoping.

08 · FAQ

Questions we hear.

What does agentic payments mean for an ISV or ISO?add
Two things. First, using AI agents to run payments with less manual work, such as onboarding, support and reconciliation. Second, getting ready to accept purchases that AI agents make for customers. We help with both.
We have never offered payments. Where do we start?add
With a scoping conversation. We look at your product, your merchants and your processors, recommend a revenue path, and map the certification and compliance work involved.
Are AI agents really buying things yet?add
Volume is early. Protocols and network programs launched in 2025 and 2026, and several are in pilot. We help you prepare so your platform can say yes when merchants ask, without overbuilding today.
Do we have to pick one protocol?add
No. ACP, AP2, x402, MPP and the card network programs overlap, and providers are joining several at once. We map what your processors and networks support and build so you are not locked to one.
Is it safe to let AI agents near payment data?add
Only with hard limits. We keep card data out of agent context where possible, set permissions and spending limits, keep audit trails, and keep people in the loop for approvals and money movement. PCI scope is part of the design.
Do you do EMV certification as part of this?add
Yes, where your product accepts cards in person. See our EMV Level 3 certification services at https://paying.co/emv-certification/.
How is this priced?add
Work is quoted against a fixed-scope Statement of Work with milestone billing, after a scoping conversation.
How do I get started?add
Use the form below to start a scoping conversation. Tell us about your platform, your processor and what you want to earn or automate.
